SaskAbilities will be celebrating 75 years of working together to build inclusive communities for people of all abilities. As part of these celebrations, Camp Easter Seal has launched an art project, whereby we are approaching artists in the Saskatchewan community to partner with us to create artwork for cabin doors. These cabins are where campers ages 6 and older spend their days with us in the summer, experiencing Saskatchewan’s only accessible camp of its kind.

Process:

The final artists will submit a proposal by February 28, 2025 based on:

  • A rough sketch of their proposed project (2’ x 5’, vertical alignment)
  • The medium they propose to use (could be paint, clay/material for sculpting, laser cutting, etc.)
  • Their top 3 subjects from the list below (a random draw will be taken if the same subjects are chosen by more than one artist)

Successful proposals will be communicated by early March, 2025

  • This project may be competitive, depending on the number of submissions received

Artists will have up to 4 months to complete the art piece (deadline of June 15, 2025)

Artists will be recognized through:

  • Our July 16, 2025 Camp Day event, to which you will receive an invitation
  • SaskAbilities’ 75th anniversary website
  • Social media acknowledgement
  • By dedication plaque near the art panel

Timeline:

  • February 28, 2025 – Deadline to submit proposal
  • March 15, 2025 – 14 successful submissions announced, artists contacted
  • March 2025 – Period to pick up panel(s)
  • June 15, 2025 – Deadline to return completed panel(s) to one of the above locations
  • July 16, 2025 – Panels are unveiled at Camp Day

Details:

  • SaskAbilities will provide an honourarium of $300 for each art panel (payable on receipt of finished panel)
  • Panels can be picked up from and dropped off to the following locations:
    • SaskAbilities’ Saskatoon Branch – 1410 Kilburn Avenue
    • SaskAbilities’ Regina Branch – 825 McDonald Street
    • SaskAbilities’ Yorkton Branch – 162 Ball Road
    • SaskAbilities’ Swift Current Branch – 1551 North Railway Street West
    • Pick up at a Prince Albert location may also be arranged upon request
  • A small plaque will be added beside the art piece once the panel has been attached. The plaque will include SaskAbilities’ 75th anniversary logo, along with the name of the artist and the painting, and any other recognition needs

We thank you very much for your consideration of our request. Camp Easter Seal provides a fun, accepting, inclusive and accessible summer camping environment for children, youth and adults experiencing disability and we believe that these doors are going to add a fun and bright element to our beautiful cabins.
