Camp is a wonderful place. For most campers it provides a special place to make new friends, do things unavailable in a traditional setting, and be outdoors during the summer. With over 120 campers and staff on site each week, it is also a busy, loud, and active environment.

For some campers, especially ones who have never been to a camp before, it can be a bit overwhelming.

Family camp sessions are designed to help a camper transition into the camp experience by providing the opportunity to bring familiar support workers with them. These camps are also open to campers living in a group environment and want to come to camp with there family at home.

How does Family camp work?

Group home and Family camp sessions are operated in a similar way to our individual camp sessions. Camp Easter Seal provides the facility, the food and the fun (programming).

On Group home and Family camp weeks, Camp Easter Seal does not have Support Workers on site. All applicants will be asked to indicate that you understand that for this week of camp, families or group home operators must provide their own support people for campers, who will support campers in all of their needs (personal care, medication, day to day support) including sleeping in the cabin with campers.

APPLY NOW

Camp Easter Seal does not charge any fees to attend programs for campers, camper attendants, or families.

Our camp has a canteen is stocked with treats, beverages and souvenir items. Campers are supported by their family to ensure that their purchase is not in conflict with a special diet or an allergy.

During their time with us family groups go off-camp for activities such as trips into Watrous or to the ice cream store in Manitou Beach. Community trips will be in keeping with all health and safety guidelines and are subject to cancellation.

We accept cash, debit and credit cards at the Canteen counter.

All cabins have between 3-8 beds, with a mixture of hospital beds and camp bunks. Bedding is not provided. The cabins all have either individual toilet stalls, or a single washroom where the door can be closed for privacy. All cabins have a mechanical Hoyer lift to be used as needed. Other equipment can be requested if available. Call us prior to your visit to arrange.

Group homes with a mix of male and female residents can ask for 2 cabins (one for men, one for women) and split their staff across the cabins. We do our best to keep these cabins next door to another.

As demand grow for family camps we may ask smaller family groups if they would like to share with another small family group. Privacy screens are available as needed in each cabin.

You can watch our virtual tour HERE to check out what the cabins look like.

During family camps you get to experience our program areas each day. The schedule rotates twice each day.  Once at camp there is a board in the Dining hall with your activities your family can chose from during each time period.  Activities change based on camper needs and interests and are adjusted based on the age groups and abilities.

How to Register for Camp Easter Seal

Registration for Camp Easter Seal Family camp sessions is done online, through our website. We have a tutorial video, and as always, we are just a phone call away should you have questions or need assistance during registration.

Camper Registration is open from February 1st to 28th each year.  If a camp session has availability, we will continue to accept registrations for that session beyond that date until the spaces are filled.

The following video will lead you through our application process.

Video will be posted prior to registration opening in 2026.

I have finished my application now what?

Every application is reviewed thoughtfully and thoroughly  by our team to ensure we understand each camper’s needs and how we can best support them. If additional information is required, or if we feel a conversation would be helpful, our staff will reach out to you directly.

Once the review process is complete, any camp weeks that exceed capacity move to a waitlist system. For these weeks, available spaces are filled through a random selection process. This approach helps ensure fairness, as we receive far more applications than we are able to accommodate.

All applications will display a status of “waitlisted” until early to mid-May. At that time, families will receive an email notification advising whether the application has been updated to “registered,” meaning a spot has been secured, or if the application remains “waitlisted.”

Campers who remain on the waitlist may still be offered a space if cancellations occur or capacity changes.

Please note that we receive hundreds of applications beyond our available spaces each year.

If you need to cancel your camp session please notify our office as soon as possible. We have waitlisted campers hoping for a spot.

How to get to Camp Easter Seal?

All campers find their own way to camp we do not organize transportation for campers. Sometimes a local group home can provide bus service if you ask.

If you are a current client of CLSD, they may be able to provide money to aid in transportation – apply to them directly for this at least 1 month prior to your camp date.

Motion Transportation has provided transportation for several of our campers over the last few years. Camp Easter Seal is located on the west side of the Village of Manitou Beach, 7 km from Watrous, SK.

What medical and health services are provided at camp?

Family camp groups are responsible for giving the medications to the campers in their care while at camp.  These medications are to be stored safely in your cabin. You are encouraged to bring a lockable box with you to keep your meds in at your cabin. You will be provided with a key to your cabin upon arrival if requested.

Families are required to bring sufficient medication and supplies for the duration of their stay.  There is a local pharmacy in Watrous if anything else is required that you may need during your stay at camp.

Campers are required to disclose all allergies in their application information. All efforts will be made to prevent the chances of a severe allergic reaction. Camp Easter Seal is a scent aware and nut-free environment.

During the application process we ask for detailed information about dietary restrictions, food sensitivities and food-related allergies.

While we are able to meet a variety of meal routines and dietary plans. We will make food substitutes to meet special diet requirements, there may be occasions where you will be required to supply additional food products.  Our staff can puree foods and provide other texture modifications.

Our kitchen is equipped to address the nutritional needs of vegetarians, vegans, celiac/wheat/gluten free diets, lactose, soy and egg allergies, but we do not offer dye-free diets, Kosher or Halal foods.

Keto diets are supported when prescribed by the camper’s medical professionals. We will work with your team to ensure your needs are met when you are with us.

Campers must supply their own specialty items. If you require specialized food (Tube Feeds, Boost, etc.) or specialty eating utensils, cups or plates please send those to camp, labelled with your full name (first and last name).

If you are unsure of whether or not your dietary needs will be met at camp, or have any questions about our food services, please contact us by sending an email to campeasterseal@saskabilities.ca.
